Araneus
Hovenweep National Monument, San Juan County, Utah, USA

After spinning some silk around an insect, this spider went to the top of its web and curled into a small ball.

Harmless and beneficial orb weaver
in the genus Araneus. It might be A. gemmoides, but it might also be Araneus illaudatus. We would need to see the ventral side to be sure, but others may be able to tell them apart.

Hovenweep National Monument is not a County
It is in San Juan County. I just added Hovenweep as the region so not sure why it says County.

Sorry, the software assumes that what you put in that field
is a County if the State is a US state that has counties. Extra information can go in the City/Location field. We fixed it on this image. You can click on Edit and see how we entered your data.
