Mystery Beetle Larvae
Ames, Story County, Iowa, USA

Size: 4 mm
Found under some papery bark. I was hoping to rear it, but sadly I kept it in the fridge a bit too long.

I'm guessing either elaterid or tenebrionid... can somebody possibly explain how to tell these groups apart?

Those down-facing mandibles belong to some different family.
