Umber Skipper egg - Poanes melane

Umber Skipper egg - Poanes melane
Alameda County, California, USA
May 22, 2014
Size: 1.1 mm diameter
After pulling up a weedy grass plant, I found a round, white egg on the underside of a blade. I set the plant in water for observation. A few days later, a black area appeared on the egg, as shown.

Fantastic images
Great job of observing, recording, and presentation.

Thank you
Thank you, sir! I now have a larva that I suspect is the same species, but its mother deposited the egg by mistake on an onion leaf that only looked like grass. It's on grass now. We'll see . . .

Great series!
