Red-winged Sallow - Xystopeplus rufago

Red-winged Sallow - Xystopeplus rufago
Sand Springs, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
March 10, 2007
Could this possibly be another Geometrid species ? It has some of the same "fringe" at the end of the wings.

Moth
I've tried to find some info on the Red-winged Sallow Moth on the web with not much luck. Any suggestions ?

However I did see one site that says that it is an endangered species. Is this true ?
I saw here on BugGuide that there are only two states (Oklahoma and Massachusetts) that had sitings listed.

Not endangered
To my knowledge this is not an endangered species. The BugGuide range data is incomplete simply because it relies on submissions to compile the data, and not many photos of this species have been submitted yet. But I am not aware of X. rufago being endangered. We have them here in Georgia, and I know of them in AL, FL, NC, SC, and Maryland. Their range is all across the eastern US and as far west as Texas. They are not really an incredibly common species, hence the potential to seem "endangered" but as far as I know, there isn't an official endangered status for this species.

I'll go ahead and move these photos to the species page for you if that's okay. You can always find them by clicking the "Your Images" link at the top right corner when you sign in.

As far as info on this species, you can type the latin name into Google and find some info, but David Wagner has a pretty good little bio on the species in his book, "Caterpillars of Eastern North America." Hope that helps. :)

Moth
Great! Once again, I really appreciate your help.

Red-winged Sallow Moth
This is a Xystopeplus rufago, the Red-winged Sallow Moth. These are the first adult photos of this species in the guide. Nice photos.
