Maybe Blackjacket (Vespula consobrina)

A "white" Yellow Jacket? Anybody know how I can use this site, or find a list and comparison (key?) for species of yellow jackets in Western Washington.

Moved from ID Request.

To find which yellowjackets and hornets have been found in Washington, navigate to Subfamily Vespinae and click on the Data Tab. Then click on Washington. Of course, this will only show BG submissions. There could be other species for which we don't yet have specimens.

This is a worker of Vespula consobrina
According to Bob Jacobson (The author of V. flavopilosa) Washington (and possibly Northern California) is the southernmost distibution for this species. The maps in Akre et al (1996) (revised edition of the yellowjacket handbook) were going to exclude most of California as it does not occur so far south as indicated in Akre et al (1981).
