Hey I like crabs as much as the next guy, but crabs aren't really "bugs" and this is Bug Guide after all.....

Ah, thanks, I didn't realize there was a crustacean section on here. I've always thought of "Bug"Guide in a colloquial manner...probably would've been less misleading to call it "ArthropodGuide" but it loses its ring.

Of coarse, if one wanted to be real formal, i guess "bug" would only refer to those insects belonging to order Hemiptera.

Again, I agree. I've never really thought about this in depth till now I suppose - how does the average person define "bug"? I picture creatures on land with exoskeletons and multiple jointed legs but I don't know if most people would also think like that (i.e. if you find some random people on the street and ask them what a bug is).
