katydid found in Ocean Beach, Fire Island, NY - Neoconocephalus exiliscanorus - Male
Ocean Beach, Fire Island, Suffolk County, New York, USA
August 22, 2014
Size: about 2-3 inches
It appears to have a pointy nose. I also found a much smaller one in my garden. This one was found on Main Street in my village.

I believe this is Neoconocephalus exiliscanorus
Moved from ID Request.

this is the only species in your area with such a long cone
You can compare cones of related species here. Only two species have the long cone, and one is only found in Florida. Therefore, it is N. exiliscanorus.
