Zion Canyon - Specifically the Narrows., Utah, USA

Yellow Caterpillar climbing on the rocks in Zion. There were numerous specimens climbing in the shadow of a small tree on the side of the river. There are small yellow horns along its back (around 4).

Yup, my buddies and I saw a similar caterpillar in the same place, the narrows of Zion. I have no idea what it is, and searching around the internet hasn't proven fruitful.

I didn't want to touch it in case the spikes were poisonous, but when i bothered the bugger with a twig, he reared up and swung his head at the twig back and forth. It was fun to watch, then we just walked away.

I wish I had a camera, but cameras aren't so safe in the narrows.

Yellow Caterpillar
Looks very similar, except for the black spots on the back of the original picture. There were many of the same kind all over the rocks and trail where this picture was taken so I don't believe that it was a hitchhiker situation. Also, it was in the Narrows of Zion, a pretty secluded spot. It is also not sporting the black hairs or black antennae hairs. Do caterpillars change as they grow or only go from caterpillar to the big change into a moth/butterfly?
