Typocerus on Cirsium undulatum - Typocerus octonotatus

Typocerus on Cirsium undulatum - Typocerus octonotatus
Between Clearwater and Haysville, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA
July 3, 2013
I think that this is probably Typocerus octonotatus, based on the information on this site, but in the book, Insects in Kansas, a look-alike appears to be labeled T. sinuatus. The beetle was found in a 5 acre old pasture that we are trying to restore to tallgrass prairie, but there is a draw with a great deal of dead wood several hundred feet away - so either dead wood or prairie grass would be available to serve as larval food.
