Minute Tree-fungus Beetle - Cis fuscipes

Minute Tree-fungus Beetle - Cis fuscipes

Could be the same species as this other Ciid: .

Cis fuscipes

Guess its same . . .
Dear Stephen,

serial bristles are an uncommon feature in Ciidae, so the probability that these ones belong to the same species, is high.

cheers, Boris

Any idea on the species, then?
If serial bristles are indeed an uncommon feaure, then perhaps we can key it down to genus? Someone else suggested Dolichocis manitoba, but of course I haven't been able to confirm that myself. I lack the keys and resources to confidently ID a Ciid.

Me not!
Dear Stephen,

I´m from Europe, so not familiar with your fauna. In our fauna, serial bristles occur in 3 genera (but not in all species of them).

You may try to contact family specialist, Glenda Orledge:

G.M.Orledge*at*bath.ac.uk

maybe she has an idea . . .

cheers, Boris

Thanks for contact, Boris.
I've just emailed her.

Very nice!
I think it is the same species. It's one of the larger ciids so that helps :-)

Thanks Jim!
Looks like I'm starting to get the hang of shooting things at this magnification. What I'm really missing is an actual macro lens!

Me too.

Cool
It's quite amazing, the images that you can obtain even with a stacked lens like the one you have.

I run on a tight budget, so creative home-made setups are what I'm planning to work on this summer (traps, black light setups and moth sheets, etc). It will be my first season of serious shooting!
