drowned tree mites

drowned tree mites
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 10, 2007
Size: about 0.8 mm
This was my second shooting of these nifty flying-saucer-shaped mites. They were dreadfully dirty for the first shoot, covered with light-colored wood and/or fungus particles, and would have required an unfeasible amount of clone-stamping in PhotoShop. The following day I gave one a bath in the palm of my hand, scrubbing it gently with my fine-tipped watercolor brush, and removed over half the irksome grime. I still had to stamp, stamp, stamp to get it repectable looking.
