drowned tree mites

drowned tree mites
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 10, 2007
Size: about 0.8 mm
Why are the feet white? One possible answer is that the mite picked up pieces of Insect-a-Slip while trying to scale the walls of the deli container. I know some mites have barbed bristles at the ends of their feet that could collect something soft and flakey like the Insect-a-slip coating.
