One of the western Buck Moths ? No! - Chlosyne gorgone

One of the western Buck Moths ? No! - Chlosyne gorgone
Just north of Denver, in Arvada, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA
August 6, 1972
We found a large group of caterpillars feeding on annual sunflower, Helianthus annuus. They seemed to be buck moths but we couldn't identify the species. Of course, we could be completely wrong!

Gorgone Checkerspot - Chlosyne gorgone
The range is a little too far north for Bordered Patch. Your orange ones have a black line, and the dark ones aren't the right pattern for Bordered.
The Gorgone's foodplant is sunflower also, and the range is all over Colorado. Check out this picture and see what you think.
And here's a little more info on range and foodplant from Nearctica.
