Elongate-bodied Springtail - Orchesella cincta

Elongate-bodied Springtail - Orchesella cincta
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
March 18, 2007
Size: 4mm
I know that there's lots of images of this species, but I think they are neat looking. They're also big enough to get some real detail with my limited equipment. This one was on a rock in my rockery.

The colour pattern of Orchesella cincta...
is quite variable and changes during the life of a particular specimen from light coloured to very dark, almost completely black (except for the typical white rings ofcourse). So, it is good to take more pictures of this species in all life stages. Given this specimen is almost black it will be one of the last instars... ;-)
