Moth - Zale

Moth - Zale
Pena Blanca Canyon, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
August 30, 2014

Moved to genus
Moved from Zale viridans.

Zale viridans is extralimital. TX reports refer to Z. strigimacula and Z. sp. nr. strigimacula. (FL reports refer to Z. sp. nr. erilda.) Without dissection or DNA, specimens cannot be identified to species in the Z. strigimacula group.

Moved
Moved from Zale.

Tentative placement pending the solving of the taxonomic issues. I realize this is way out of the expected range, but it surely looks like it to me.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Possible ID
Lunate Zale (Zale lunata). They have a wide range and they can be different shades of brown. They have a pretty unique shape in comparison to the other moth species I've seen. To me they give the impression of looking like bark or tree rings or something.
