Bramble Hairstreak - Callophrys dumetorum

Bramble Hairstreak - Callophrys dumetorum
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA
March 22, 2007
I've submitted several of these to show difference in coloration. Some individuals are all green, while others have varying amounts of a second color. (Orange here, also some towards peach or pink.) These are very pretty and very shy small butterflies. Host plant is deerweed.

Moved from Bramble Hairstreak.

Thanks, David...
...for the move and the subspecies page.

Very nice,
crisp image! And its sitting on a 'Deerweed' (Lotus scoparius), probably a female getting ready to oviposit.

Thanks, Hartmut
I've been using flash more and couldn't have obtained this heavily backlit shot without it.

I love the way the orange looks like paint; haven't seen others with this type of marking.
