Monarch chrysalis? - Danaus plexippus

Monarch chrysalis? - Danaus plexippus
O'Fallon, St. Clair County, Illinois, USA
September 7, 2014
Size: ~2cm
Preliminarily identified as monarch chrysalis

Sigh - crysalis failed to hatch
I think the comment on the chrysalis being damaged by the black spot was correct since the chrysalis did not hatch after 16 days, but became black and shriveled.
