Identification
Adult: forewing purplish-gray with dark shading beyond subterminal line and in patch surrounding reniform spot, composed of U-shaped white marking with dark filling; AM line black, wavy or irregular; PM line similar but less distinct; hindwing gray distally, becoming paler toward base and along inner margin
Range
Florida to Massachusetts, New York, and Ontario, west to Wisconsin and Arkansas
Season
adults fly from late March to October (all months in southern Florida)
