Not a stick insect--although it certainly resembles one.

I've seen thread-legged assas
I've seen thread-legged assassin bugs before but this summer I've seen three like this one and they don't have the modified front legs to grasp prey.?

Good catch!
I was obviously too hasty on this one. That said, I'm not convinced that this is a Phasmid, either. With that "snout" and the legs bunched at the center of the body, it doesn't seem to match any of the images in the Guide--at least not those I've seen so far. Yet it's oddly familiar, too. Very odd. I'll have to keep looking. I'm pretty sure that someone will ID it and I'll slap my forehead for not having recognized it. In the meantime, I'm putting it back in ID Request.

Again, thanks for keeping me honest!

Hydrometrid, no?
Hydrometrid, no?

I knew it looked familiar! (head slap)

I can take some small consolation in having originally chosen the right order. It's not much, but it's all I've got. :)

Thank you!
Thank you! That makes sense. They were all seen close to water.
