What's the red thing on its leg? Seems to be on its head, too? There were other bees with this also.

Apis mellifera is correct. The red thing is probably a Varroa mite. Looks like one on the leg too.

 
If it is varroa...
Is the prognosis certain death?

Shouldn't there be a Varroa mite guide page??

 
No confirmed IDs
We try not to create guide pages until we have confirmed images to put there. So far all I've seen is "it might be" or "it looks like"... though we seem to be getting closer.
