am unable to fully grok "no taxon"
so, thanks. :) Is this where I should have put it from Yazan's ID?
The best I figure is that "no taxon" means that a page like that isn't part of the formal taxonomic listing - but that still leaves me confused. I suppose eventually I'll figure it out. Sorry for the extra work. :o)

Quick explanation
The "No Taxon" listing is a category for varieties and forms or other that diverge or vary from the norm (i.e. are not actual subspecies but may exhibit traits or characters that can be confusing (the info header explains the traits seen in the mid-Atlantic/South that lead to erroneous id's for this species in that region)

I grok, finally!
It's not like you were speaking Klingon or anything, but for whatever reason it must have taken me a good hour and a half to get it through my head. Time well spent. While off on another tangent I was able to figure out the difference between male and female, something that I've been yearning to know. It seems the female has "processes". Lucky her, I don't know what she'd do without them! Thanks again, and maybe e-see you next year.

Yes, the swamp cicada.
Tibicen tibicen ssp. tibicen. Possibly one of the Mid-Atlantic phenotypes.

Go ahead and move to species.

thanks :o)
I hope your studies go well -- I need all the help I can get.
