Size: Size of a lady bug
Found beetle on my deck on Seabrook Island, South Carolina at 6pm September 10th 2014. Tried to research on-line to figure out type, but could not locate any info.

This looks like a Stink Bug (specifically a nymph) rather than a beetle. It might be a Harlequin Bug, like this one:
