Thighmaster bug has been exercising - Harmostes dorsalis

Thighmaster bug has been exercising - Harmostes dorsalis
Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, Orange County, California, USA
March 24, 2007
I could get only a top view on this critter, so am posting an enlargement of the body. Does this help in ID, or is one shot enough? (I know editors can see it bigger yet, but am figuring with many folks using the IE7 browser, the 400% magnification eliminates the need for enlargements.) What's your opinion?

Harmostes dorsalis
See info page for justification.

Moved from Harmostes.

Moved

Coreidae or Rhopalidae
I guess, the second alternative is more probable, because the wing tips are transparent, and the last antennal sement is clubby. Enlarged hind femora with spines point to first alternative, though.

cheers, Boris

Thanks, Boris, for some good direction.
I'll poke around a bit.

Hahaha!
Thank you for the best laugh I have had all day:-) Yes, it does look like it has been working out. It is a rhopalid, genus Harmostes I believe.

Thank you for the ID.
For more laughs, go to Forums and check the newly moved Chortles & Guffaws. Quite instructional! Among other things, you'll learn about the insect named after a California Treat.
