One more image of a 2-day-old larva, showing overall body shape, including small "prolegs" that the larva seems to use to help it move around. The "prolegs" were barely more than bumps along the bottom [ventral side] of the larva, which is facing up in the photo.

It was so shiny that, to my unaided eye, it appeared to have a light stripe running down its back.

I had no idea what this tiny thing was as I was photographing it, but thought maybe some sort of Heteroptera, based on the 4-section antennae. Loved the colors. When I got it on my computer screen, I noticed the legs, the little hairs, its cylindrical shape, and the eyes. A wild guess and search for "humpbacked springtail" brought me directly here. :) What a fun find!

Another photo of the 2-day-old larva. I include this image because you can tell that the loops in the larva are the retracted portions of its breathing tubes. Also you can see 3-4 silvery "lumps" inside the animal, in the lower right of the image...sorry to be so unscientific but I have no idea what the lumps are!
