unknown duskywing? - Erynnis - Hamilton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Ontario, Canada July 26, 2011
I need a little help. I find duskywings (and the like) to be a little bit taxing, and I never trust my own conclusions with them. They can be so variable! I need a second eye.
I'm thinking that this is either an Erynnis baptisiae or Erynnis icelus. But I'm far from an expert in this. It was found on a marsh-side forest edge trail. Please let me know your suggestions!
Many thanks,
David

A more recent Sulphur - Colias philodice Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA July 20, 2011
A warmer location, and less heavy pink on the wing margins, and you can see the dark pattern showing through from the wings' upper sides. So, Colias philodice, sí?

Another oldie: image from 1989 - Colias philodice Dolly Sods, Grant County, West Virginia, USA September 9, 1989
On both these two individuals I'm posting, I'm thinking they are C. interior based on the heavy pink on the wing margins, and the cool, high-elevation location.
