Black spider with red legs in our bathtub. About an inch across. Found in Champaign, IL. Large pedipalps WRT body size. Curls up into a ball very easily when spooked. Almost looks like a southern house spider, but:
1) its quite small and the pedipalps look too big.
2) Champaign IL is a bit too far north for this spider's normal range as far as I can tell.

These two nymphs, in a different container than the other one photographed today, have occupied the same Pittosporum leaf for days. Top: fourth instar. Middle: very new fifth instar. Bottom: exuviae.

All the nymphs have access to rose and Pittosporum stems and leaves. They don't seem to prefer one over the other.

Twenty-four hours later, the upper nymph had molted, and it had the coloring of the lower one in this photo. The lower one had the coloring of the nymph shown for Day 111.
