I am a (recently retired! :-) community college mathematics teacher with a deep love and appreciation for the natural world.

I've been an avid amateur botanist since around 2001, focusing on experiencing and learning about the incredibly rich flora of California. I've traveled over much of the state pursuing that interest/passion.

The CalPhotos website was an invaluable tool for me in learning about the California flora, and eventually I decided to "give back" by getting a camera and contributing plant photos. (You can peruse my CalPhotos postings here.)

In spending so much time studying and photographing plants, I couldn't help but notice something else...all those insects!! So I began to read about and appreciate their fascinating forms, life histories, behaviors, and plant interactions. Now I'm eager to know much more. Photography is a great way to document, study, and learn about the natural world. And BugGuide is a great resource for those who wish to learn about insects and other arthropods, and to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. Glad it's here!

I am interested in just about all things related to natural history: plants, fungi, insects, birds, herps, mammals, geology, biogeography, and the ecology and dynamics of how they all interact. Your comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
