After 20 years of serving in the USAF in the clinical laboratory field, I retired in Dec 2005 and am now a full time nature and wildlife photographer. I started photography in the early 80's and got my first image published in 1995. I photograph all aspects of nature and wildlife with heavy emphasis on insects and spiders.

I’m an award-winning nature and wildlife photographer with numerous national and international credits that include publications of the The National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, The Smithsonian Institution, the National Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, and magazines such as Natural History, Discover, Texas Gardener, Oklahoma Today, Birds and Blooms, Prairies North, Outdoor Photographer, National Wildlife, Photo Techniques, Grit, Nature Photographer, Highlights for Children, Outdoor Oklahoma, Photo World, Reptiles, Texas Parks and Wildlife, American Angler, Fine Gardening, Mother Earth News, and more including calendars, greeting cards, posters, books and museum/nature center displays.

For my macro photos, I currently use a Nikon D7000 with either a Nikkor 200mm micro or a Nikkor 105mm micro used in conjunction with extension tubes and/or a teleconverter. I use a SB-700 flash on a flash bracket for animate subjects. I switched to digital format in December of 2012 and my first 1,600 or so submissions on Bugguide are scans from slides.

I am always looking for collaborators for books, magazine articles, etc. If you would like to write a piece for a popular magazine and are interested in collaborating, please send me an email.
