I'm a biology lab technician in NYC wanting to become an entomologist and currently pursuing a Masters in Forensics at Pace University. I have only taken a few entomology related classes and most of my experience with insects is from my own personal experience. Currently I am doing research on the diversity of Auchenorrhyncha in Highbridge Park NYC. The goal of this research is to 1) Ascertain the species of Auchenorrhyncha present in one NYC park (including searching for a possibly undescribed species of Coelidia), 2) determine the feasibility of expanding research to other parks and include other insects and 3) determine if through diversity studies in a major port city's urban parks, can aid in discovering the presence of agriculturally and forensically important invasive species, before they become a widespread problem. NYC as urban as one may think has a great many parks chock full of insects which is where most of my pictures come from. I've only in the last few years taken up macrophotography and still in the learning process too. I absolutely love bugguide.net, can't imagine insect hunting with out it!
