Biography:
I recently received my B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and I am currently studying systematic entomology at Montana State. For my thesis, I am looking at the systematics and biology of the Sphenoptera exerata and S. gemmata species groups (Coleoptera : Buprestidae). They are Palaearctic groups that are of interest because of their associations with plants in the genus Chondrilla, wich includes an important weed species in the western United States. This group is rhizophagous and represents a potential biological control agent for Chondrilla. In addition, I am revising the Buprestid genus Chalcophora in the western hemisphere. My other interests include Elmidae (and most Dryopoidea), Cerambycidae, aquatic ecology, and shiny things in general.
