Biography:

I collect a wide variety of insects, though I tend to focus mostly on Coleoptera and have a particular interest in Phyllophaga and Carabidae.

Broadly interested in the insect diversity of the state of Kentucky, which has historically been under-reported in the scientific literature.

Currently working on reviews of the Scaritinae (Carabidae) and Heteroceridae of the midwest.

Note: I don't always subscribe to images I comment on or move to cut down on emails. Feel free to email me if I don't respond to a posted comment.

Photo-Vouchering

Any BugGuide contributors that would like to submit specimens of Phyllophaga, other Melolonthinae, or miscellaneous Coleoptera/Diptera/Heteroptera/Hymenoptera for identification and photo-vouchering, please feel free to contact me via the above email address.

Specimens should be collected in alcohol (isopropyl is satisfactory and easy to obtain). In some cases, dry specimens are preferred. Contact me for shipping instructions.

Voucher specimens will eventually be deposited in an institutional collection.

**Photo-voucher discussion.

I may comment on vouchered specimens: "Specimen deposited in XXXX". This means the voucher specimen in question has been placed in an institutional collection or donated to a specialist. I will have a listing of abbreviations used below.

- PWMC (Peter Messer Collection)
- TAMUIC (Texas A&M University Insect Collection)
- OSUC (Ohio State University, Triplehorn Insect Collection)

Want to help out? I enjoy doing identifications and helping out the community, both on BugGuide and iNaturalist. What I do is completely on a volunteer basis so any help defraying costs is appreciated. Insect pins (#2 black enamel Entosphinx brand) and genitalia vials (2.5 mm inner diameter, white silicone stoppers) are the supplies I use the most. Donations can also be sent via Paypal (bradbarnd@hotmail.com) which will help cover supplies and shipping costs.

--------------------------------------------------

My Coleoptera collection contains over 11000 specimens of at least 2800 species. In addition, I have over 5700 specimens of other insect orders, mostly Diptera, Heteroptera, and Hymenoptera.
