My motivations are primarily exploratory. I like wandering through nature looking for new subjects for my photo collection, trying to find a satisfactory balance between good photography and thorough collecting. My previous camera was a Canon G5, but I upgraded to a Sony HX100V and a Raynox DCR-250 accessory lens for the 2011 season. I find close-up photography to be particularly interesting because it causes me to see things that I’d otherwise never notice.

What began as a photo project has also become an arthropodology education, thanks largely to the folks here at BugGuide. Although I do have a number of field guides, BugGuide members have been invaluable to me in identifying the various things I’ve captured images of. I thank you all.
