With my wife Melly as an assistant, I worked with birds professionally on National Wildlife Refuges for 30 years. We have also been interested in mammals, herptiles, insects, and wildflowers. Except for dragonflies, butterflies, and (to a lesser degree) moths, comprehensive guides and/or references to western insects do not seem to exist. Therefore, we seek and appreciate any and all identification assistance from other BugGuide contributors. Since retirement in 1995, we resided off the grid at "Xylem Acres"in very rural Idaho until October 2021. Since selling our home, we have wandered the country in a small camp trailer, observing and photographing wildlife, especially birds and insects.
