Biography:

I'm a database and web programmer for the UC Berkeley Natural History Museums. Some projects on which I work are AmphibiaWeb, CalPhotos, and the Essig Museum of Entomology database. I enjoy my work but I'd rather be outdoors looking for bugs, birds, frogs...

My current camera is a Canon 5D Mark IV. For insects I use the following three Canon lenses: the MP-E 65mm macro lens, the 100mm macro lens, and (occasionally) the 180mm macro lens. I use an MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite Flash, and sometimes 430EX and/or 550EX flashes. Occasionally I use a tripod but much of the time since the insects are either moving or about to fly off, a tripod is not practical. I then try to brace my arms against something when taking photos.
