I am a graduate student studying mathematics at the University of Texas. I enjoy observing, photographing, and identifying insects and spiders in my spare time. I especially fancy moths and wasps, but I love them all.
All of my shots since may 2007 have been taken using my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, which is a small, portable digital camera that I am totally in love with. Here are a couple of examples of what it can do:
I use the following field guides, along with this website of course, for making ID's: Caterpillars of Eastern North America by David Wagner Butterflies of North America by Jim P. Brock & Kenn Kaufman (Kaufman guides) Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America by Eric Eaton and Kenn Kaufman
I strongly recommend these books. I'm currently looking around for good books on moths, wasps and Odonata.
For Sphingidae, I use Bill Oehlke's wonderful website.
